Bangladesh has a growing community in Spain. Many people are going through regularization, work permit, family reunification, or student visa procedures. Each of these typically requires official documents from Bangladesh in Spanish.

Requirements vary by authority, office, and date. Always check the current official instructions for your specific procedure.

Which Bangladeshi Documents Are Commonly Needed

The following documents are among those most often requested in Spanish immigration and administrative procedures:

  • Police Clearance Certificate — issued by Bangladesh Police. Certificates issued for international use are often in English or bilingual (Bengali and English). Typically required for visa and regularization applications.
  • Birth certificate — issued by Union Parishad (rural areas) or city corporations such as DNCC or DSCC. Format and language vary; some include English sections.
  • Marriage certificate / Kabinnama — required for family reunification and spouse-related procedures.
  • Divorce documents — court-issued or administrative documents confirming dissolution of marriage.
  • Academic certificates — secondary and higher education certificates, university degrees, and transcripts. University-level documents may be in English.
  • Employment letters — may be required for work permit applications.
  • Passport — the biographical data page is typically in English and Bengali.
  • National ID (NID) — may be requested as an identity document.

Language Note: Bengali and English in Bangladeshi Documents

Bangladesh’s primary official language is Bengali. Many civil documents — such as birth certificates and marriage certificates — are issued in Bengali only.

However, Police Clearance Certificates issued specifically for international use are frequently in English or bilingual. Some academic documents from Bangladeshi universities are also issued in English or have an English version available.

Alba Fernández Carrasco is a sworn translator-interpreter for English and Spanish, appointed by Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAEC), Commission No. 8981. She translates from English to Spanish only.

She can translate Bangladeshi documents that are in English, or the English portions of bilingual documents. If your document is solely in Bengali, you will need to obtain an official English translation from a certified translator in Bangladesh first. Once you have an English version, Alba can prepare the sworn translation into Spanish.

If you are unsure whether your document can be translated directly, send a scan and Alba will confirm.

Alba can help with the sworn translation portion of the process. She does not provide legal or immigration advice.

Authentication of Bangladeshi Documents

Bangladesh is not a member of the Hague Apostille Convention. This means that apostilles are not issued for Bangladeshi documents.

Instead, documents intended for official use abroad may require attestation through Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and, in some cases, the Spanish Embassy or consulate. The receiving authority in Spain will determine what is required.

Requirements vary by authority, office, and date. Always check the official instructions before having your documents attested.

Why Translation Timing Matters

For Bangladeshi documents, there are often multiple steps before the sworn translation can be prepared:

  1. Obtaining the document in an English-language version (if it is in Bengali only)
  2. Having the document authenticated through the MFA and the Spanish Embassy (if required)
  3. Sending the complete, authenticated document to Alba for sworn translation

Each step takes time. If you are working toward a deadline — such as the 30 June 2026 extraordinary regularization deadline — plan ahead to allow enough time for each stage.

What to Send Alba

Send a clear scan of the full document — all pages, including any authentication stamps from the MFA or the Spanish Embassy. A digital PDF or high-quality photo is sufficient. You do not need to mail originals.

Alba will review the document, confirm whether the English content is sufficient for translation, and provide the page count and total price before starting. You receive a digitally signed and stamped sworn translation PDF by email. Payment is made after delivery.

  • Standard rate: €37 per page
  • Rush rate: €55 per page for 12-hour delivery (when available)

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Bangladeshi documents in English?

It depends on the document. Police Clearance Certificates issued for international use are often in English. University-level academic documents may also be in English. Civil documents such as birth and marriage certificates are typically in Bengali. If you are unsure, send a scan and Alba will confirm.

What if my document is only in Bengali?

Alba translates from English to Spanish only. An official English translation from a certified translator in Bangladesh will be needed first. Once you have it, Alba can prepare the sworn translation for Spain.

What about MFA attestation?

Bangladesh is not in the Hague Apostille Convention. MFA attestation and Spanish Embassy authentication may be required instead of an apostille. Requirements vary by procedure — confirm with the receiving authority in Spain.

Can I send a scanned PDF?

Yes. A clear, complete scan is sufficient for the sworn translation. Originals are not required.

How long does translation take?

Standard delivery is typically within a few business days. Rush delivery (12-hour turnaround) is available at €55 per page when Alba’s schedule allows.
