1. Find Your Consulate
Determine which consulate serves your home address by checking the BLS website.
There are three consulates in the UK: London, Manchester, and Edinburgh.
2. Create a BLS Account
Visit the BLS website and create an account.
Provide basic information such as your address and the type of visa you’re applying for.
Appointments are £15, and slots are typically easy to book (even a day in advance).
Note: Walk-ins are not allowed for study visas—booking is mandatory.
3. Prepare Your Documents
Gather all required documents early to avoid stress. Here’s the checklist:
a) Passport and Photocopy
Submit your passport (consulate keeps it during processing).
Provide a photocopy of the page with your photo and information.
Avoid booking holidays while your passport is with the consulate.
b) Visa Application Form
Download and print the correct form from the BLS website.
Fill it out completely and accurately.
c) Recent Passport-Sized Photo
Photos can be taken at a photo booth or directly at the consulate (BLS provides this service).
d) Proof of Study and Photocopy
Provide a letter of acceptance from your Spanish university.
The letter must:
Be in Spanish.
Include start and end dates of study.
Be stamped and signed by your host university.
Colour PDF printouts are acceptable.
e) Proof of Funding
You must demonstrate that you have €600 per month of study.
For a full academic year (September–July), this totals €6600 (£5547).
Also provide proof of tuition fee payment (~£1.5k).
Choose one of these methods:
Student Finance Letter: Print from your online account. Submit two colour copies.
Scholarship Letter: Submit proof of your scholarship.
Personal Funds: Provide stamped bank statements showing £5547 held for 28 days.
Parental Sponsor (most complex):
6 months of parent’s bank statements (stamped).
Notarised letter from your parent accepting financial responsibility.
Copy of your parent’s work contract with salary.
Apostilled birth certificate.
f) Health Insurance
Apply for a GHIC card (free on the NHS). Processing can take up to 4 weeks.
Alternatively, purchase private insurance (£300–£500 for student plans).
g) ACRO Police Check
Obtain an ACRO certificate (£50 for standard; £110 for premium service in 2 days).
This must be apostilled and translated. Bring extra colour copies.
h) Certificate of Good Health
Obtain this document from a private company (e.g., ZoomDoc for £50).
Apostille and translate this certificate. Bring extra colour copies.
i) Proof of Residence in Consular District
Provide any letter or bill (e.g., a poll card) showing your UK address.
4. Apostille and Translation
Documents to Apostille and Translate:
ACRO Police Check.
Certificate of Good Health.
Birth Certificate (apostille only, if using a financial sponsor).
Apostille Process:
Use the official EU Court of Hague website.
Apostille service costs £83 per document. Processing takes about a week.
Translation Options:
Option 1: Contact sworn translators listed on the Spanish Consulate website (cheaper, ~£50 for both documents, but slower).
Option 2: Use the Hague service for faster results (~£180 for both documents).
5. Book Your Appointment
Once all documents are ready, book an appointment on the BLS website.
6. On the Day of Your Appointment
Arrive on time (preferably 10 minutes early). Late arrivals may be turned away.
Process:
Fill out a short form and receive an envelope for your documents.
Wait in the lounge until your number is called.
Present your documents one by one to the appointment manager.
Pay the visa fee (£345, including passport return postage).
Have your photo taken.
The entire process usually takes about 20 minutes.
7. Visa Processing
Processing time can vary from 2–8 weeks.
In some cases, it may take only 8 working days.
You will receive a text notification when your passport is dispatched.
By following these steps, you can successfully apply for your visa with minimal hassle.
